Foody Friday

Well today's food post is a bit of a switch. It might not even be that exciting for you....but for ME it's a big deal.

Why?

It has to do with a treat that my hubby brought back from the BIG city of San Pedro Sula (4 hours away) for me. :)

I miss some of the more healthy, exciting greens that are hard to find here. Not to mention funky cheeses, oils, veggies, meats, spices, chilies, salsas, grains, THAI FOOD...but I digress.

He brought me THIS; one of my favorite foods on earth, which I have not tasted for almost 3 years. (edited to add - these are DATES. )

Yes, Michelle Spencer...I mean that.

and THIS...which is better than chocolate in my opinion. (edited to add - this is SPINACH)

and a bunch of foofy, pretty, dark green lettuces too.

Big deep sigh....he really loves me.

Now - see what I made with them???

Green smoothies...yum.

He loves me A LOT to be drinking that don't you think? It's why he's so darn healthy and can do the superman type things he does here, at least, that's what I tell him. Oh wait...that was Popeye wasn't it?? Hmmm....no. He's more Superman than Popeye. :)

Buen Provecha....

The lettuce looks great.
I don't think I could stomach a veggie smoothie. I guess I'm too addicted to sugar.
Um.....what is in that package? I don't want to guess.

Prunes and spinach? You've got to be kidding, right? We're supposed to pity you for living without these delicacies? Sorry, it's not working here.

Hey Theresa!

I forgot to say what those things are!! I fixed it now. Those are Dates in the package and the bagged greens are SPINACH!! :)

I was too busy drinking my pineapple, orange, banana, spinach smoothie to remember those little details!! :)

Umm... I can feel badly for you for not having cheeses, but not having dates? Um... not feelin' it, sistah.

Would love your green smoothie recipe.

He *does* love you indeed.

Gfg - our smoothies consist of what ever is in the market. :)

Oranges are a base as well and frozen bananas because those are always around. Then I get creative and add pineapple, cantaloupe, and/or watermelon. Of course several handfuls of spinach, and then ice and water....blend away...bok choy is another really good green to throw it but that's even harder to find here.

I'm not a good recipe follower type of gal so you may just want to ignore what I say...:)

Jamie - they aren't PRUNES!!! They are DATES....big difference. Although I am in the weird camp and love prunes too.

Do you still want to be my friend???

Jamie Jo said...

That's okay. Yes we can still be friends. Truthfully I'd prefer a good prune over dates any day, unless it's a date with my husband. I need to acquire a taste for green smoothies....

Mmm, dates! What was it my friends put in them last time...I think cream cheese..they were heavenly.

Have you tried growing a little bit of greens at home? I have heard that New Zealand spinach or amarath leaves are good substitutes for warmer climates.

This post cracked me up. Dates, huh? If I tell you I've NEVER tasted one, will you still be my friend??

Glad you got your treats!
